This blog article is part 3 of my serious traveling from India to the USA in Lufthansa business class. I traveled in Lufthansa Business class back in April from India to the USA. This blog report I am going to detail my trip experience from India to Germany flying in Lufthansa A-340-300.
Boarding Area at Chennai Airport
After spending some time at the Chennai Airport lounge, I went to the boarding area in the old terminal building. The flight was full since there was no separate boarding gate for business class and economy class passengers the business class passengers were given priority in boarding.
Inside the Plane
There were about 30 seats in the Airbus A340-300 business class with a seating configuration of 2-2-2. I was assigned to seat number 4A. There was no first class in the fight, but there was a premium economy class section available in the flight.
I boarded the plan and settled on my windows seat, and the seat next to my seat was not occupied. Since the windows seat in Lufthansa A340-300 does not have direct aisle access, it is nice not to have someone occupying the aisle seat. Very convenient for me to leave my seat anytime without disturbing the seatmate.
The seats are very nice and comfortable, they are full lay flat seat and you can have peaceful sleep
The rear seat tray had the airline amenity kit as well as a bottle of water.
Business class amenity kit
The business class amenity kit was a standard issue. Just contained some lotions, socks, toothbrush/paste and eye mask for nice comfortable sleep.
The business class came with the full-size comforter as well as a full-size pillow, which was very nice and way better than the one you will get in the economy class.
The business class was equipped with a nice entertainment system. There was a nice Bose audio headphone, available in a compartment on the left-hand side of the seat, and it was a bit difficult to reach and retrieve the headphone.
There are about 124 movies available, the majority of them are movies from Hollywood with few international films.
The Airbus 340-300 was fitted with the new generation of remote control, and you have to point the remote towards the screen and use your finger on the central panel of the remote control which will produce a pointer on the screen. You need to move the pointer to the desired selection and press the center square button to select your choice. It took me few minutes to learn the ins and outs of using the remote for watching the movies.
WIFI was not available on the flight before we took off to Frankfurt, the flight attendant announced that the WIFI is not working and apologized for the inconvenience.
There were power sockets available right below the seat for powering up your devices. But there were no USB ports if you want to charge your phone or tablet device you need to have the power brick for charging otherwise you are out of luck.
Inflight Food Choices
Unlike many Asian airlines, there is no separate area for business class bar/food court. The snacks were kept in the Gally that divided the Business and Premium Economy class, but plenty of drinks and snacks items were available for consumption.
The dinner in the flight was served around 3:00 AM local time after we took off from Chennai airport. Since I have already had my dinner in the business-class lounge, I skipped the dinner and went to sleep.
An hour before landing at Frankfurt we were served the breakfast. Since I am a vegetarian, I asked the flight attendant whether they have any vegetarian option other than the Indian food for breakfast. She said they have the pancakes as an additional option and I opted for pancake for breakfast.
The vegetarian food choice is not a bad deal given that I booked my flight only 24 hours earlier and not able to request for any special meal. This is one of the reasons I like the business class they will go the extra length to satisfy your meal requirements even if you have not requested a special meal 72 before the flight departure.
We had one restroom up at the front of the business class for the exclusive use of the business class passengers and two right next after the galley which was shared between business class and the premium economy class. The restrooms are standard restrooms available in may of the Airbus A340 flights. But few extra amenities like shaving blade, cream, etc. were available in the restroom.
Arrival at Frankfurt
Overall it was a peaceful journey I slept close to 6 hours on the 9.5 hours flight. We arrived at Frankfurt on time, since there were no gates available we got down using stairs took the bus and arrived at terminal A.
My connection flight like most of the departing flight for the USA were from terminal Z. I took the interterminal train and arrived at terminal Z. Since I had about 90 minutes of connection time, I spent some time in the Business Class lounge before getting on board my flight to the USA. Watch this website for my blog article about Lufthansa Terminal Z Lounge review as well as the review of my business class flight to the USA.
