One of the good perks of Chase Ultimate Reward points is you can move the ultimate rewards points between your different Chase card accounts. If you have multiple chase ultimate rewards earning cards like Chase Freedom, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred you can move the rewards points between the account.
Consolidating your points in one account will help you transfer the point to airline frequent flyer program/hotel guest program or use the points to purchase an airline ticket or book a hotel reservation through the ultimate rewards portal for an award that requires more points than the one available in a single account.
Ultimate Rewards Points Differences Between Chase Cards
The ultimate rewards points earned using different Chase credit cards are not same some has more value than others. But by moving your lower valued ultimate rewards point in a card to a higher value ultimate rewards point card you can convert your lower valued points to higher valued point.
Both Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Unlimited ultimate rewards points are valued 1¢ each when you want to convert the points to dollars, or you want to use your points through ultimate rewards portal for purchasing a flight ticket or book a hotel room. Will Chase Devalue the Transfer Between Freedom Cards and Reserve Card?
The ultimate rewards points in the Chase Sapphire Reserve account is worth 1.5¢ compared to just 1¢ if you have the points with Chase Freedom card. By moving the point to Chase Sapphire Reserve, the points are 50% more valuable compared to the points held in the Chase Freedom account.
There is an interesting thread going in the Reddit Churning forum, that chase is considering changing the Ultimate Rewards point transfer ratio from Freedom cards to Sapphire Reserve card. Currently, they transfer the points in the ratio of 1:1, and Chase is considering changing the transfer ratio to 3:2. For example, when you transfer 1500 points from Chase Freedom to Chase Sapphire Reserve you will receive only 1000 ultimate rewards points after you move the points to Chase Sapphire Reserve.
At this point, no one knows how many points you will receive if you want to revert the transaction and send the points back to Chase Freedom card. Will one receive 1500 points for each 1000 points transferred or just only 1000 points with a loss of 500 points?.
If Chase implements any such changes, they may or may not to keep track of how many points transferred from Freedom to Sapphire Reserve and appropriately credit the lost points if one transfer the points back to Chase Freedom account.
A Key Points to Note When Combine points with other Chase cards with Ultimate Rewards
- You can move your points, but only to another Chase card with Ultimate Rewards belonging to you, or one member of your household.
- If Chase suspect that you’ve engaged in fraudulent activity related to your credit card account or Ultimate Rewards, or that you’ve misused Ultimate Rewards in any way (for example by buying or selling points, moving or transferring points with or to an ineligible third party or account, or repeatedly opening or otherwise maintaining credit card accounts for the sole purpose of generating rewards) Chase may temporarily prohibit you from earning points or using points you’ve already earned. If Chase believes you have engaged in any of these acts, Chase will close your credit card account, and you will lose all your points.
- Check out the Chase website for any additional questions regarding the transfer of ultimate rewards point here.
